How to Create a League in Ride Hermes
If you and your Onewheel friends want the ability to race against each other and have leaderboards calculated automatically, you’re going to want to get the Ride Hermes app. If you like Onewheel racing and friendly competition, you will appreciate the work our friend Mark Burns has done single-handedly for the love of the community. It’s the first app that was created as a way to help Onewheel riders experience the fun of healthy competition with fellow riders in their community. It accomplishes this by allowing communities to create Leagues, which can then create Seasons, which then use selected Segments to compete against riders on an up-to-date leaderboard. I’m going to walk you through the process of setting up a League in Ride Hermes, so let’s get to it.
Definitions:
League – Area-focused community ( In Arizona we have the OWAZ Underground )
Season – Designated time set that riders will be able to compete on selected Segments
Segment – A selection, of a portion of a “recorded ride,”. You set Start and End points that riders will race through.
Note: As long as the rider is recording their ride before they hit the start point of the segment, and doesn’t stop the ride record before they pass the endpoint, once their ride is saved and uploaded, it will be compared against riders that have raced against the segment.
Caveat: Created segments have perpetual leaderboards that are separate from the Season Leaderboards, which are based on a grouping of multiple segments ( typically 5-10 ). Segment leaderboards can be raced on at all times, while Season Leaderboards are a set designation of time ( typically 3 months ).
Starting Your League
Creating a League in “Hermes” as I call it, is a relatively straightforward process. The one major caveat is that anyone can create a League and set up Seasons to have fun racing, but only submitted and approved Leagues will be considered part of the Underground Circuit. Underground circuit approved leagues compete and their top 3 male and female riders could go race in a finals against the top 3 from every Underground Circuit League. If each state has 1 Underground Circuit-Approved League, that would be 150 men and 150 women riders coming together to battle it out in a finals to the #1 Underground rider. Do you got what it takes?
