When Future Motion released the first Onewheel in 2014, few could have predicted the explosion of rider communities that would spread across the country. What began as a niche personal electric vehicle (PEV) curiosity quickly evolved into a national subculture – one now shaped by 96 organized local communities, thousands of group rides, and over 100,000 U.S. riders.
Amid that expansion, Onewheel AZ stands out as one of the earliest and most well-organized communities in America.
Formed in August 2017, Onewheel AZ (OWAZ) is not only one of the country’s first state-level Onewheel groups, but also one of the few that maintains a dedicated website, Discord, and a consistently engaged member base made up of 95% Onewheel-specific riders and 80% local Arizona residents. In a time when many communities blend into the broader PEV ecosystem, OWAZ has remained deeply rooted in Onewheel culture itself.

This report examines the national Onewheel landscape using data from state-level Facebook communities across the U.S. and places Onewheel AZ within that national story.
THE NATIONAL LANDSCAPE: WHAT THE DATA REVEALS
After collecting data on every identifiable state-level Onewheel community, several key patterns emerge.
Average Onewheel Community Size: 906 Members
Across all 96 communities with available membership data:
- Many groups are small (under 100 members)
- A large cluster sits between 500–1500
- A handful exceed 2000+
This produces a national average of 906 members per community.
6 States Have No Recognized Onewheel Community
As of 2025, six U.S. states do not have a clear standalone Onewheel community:
- Kansas
- Delaware
- Mississippi
- New Hampshire
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
These riders may participate in regional or multi-state groups, but no dedicated Facebook community was found. This data will be updated as new information emerges.
California Has the Most Communities – Due to Geography, History, and Culture

California is the birthplace of the Onewheel, and, given its size and diverse geography, it naturally has more local Onewheel communities than anywhere else in the U.S.
California riders participate in a network of both:
City/Sub-Chapter Groups
These make it easier to find nearby riders and coordinate day-to-day meetups:
- Onewheel LA
- San Fran Onewheel Riders
- Onewheel San Diego
- OC Onewheel
- Greater Sacramento Onewheel Group
- Chico Onewheel
- Central California Riders
Statewide Groups
Useful for:
- Legislation and safety discussions
- Cross-state event coordination
- Larger statewide announcements
This dual structure does not inflate member counts – it simply reflects the reality of a huge, diverse riding region.
Seattle Currently Holds the Largest Single Onewheel Community

Based on publicly visible Facebook membership, Onewheel Seattle appears to be the largest single-city Onewheel community in the country, with approximately 2,900 members.
Most well-known communities operate on Facebook, though riders should note that some exist on Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, and independent forums, which may not appear in Facebook-only datasets.
Communities With More Than 2,000 Members
Only 8 communities nationwide exceed 2,000 members — placing them in the top 5%:
- Onewheel Seattle (WA) – 2900
- Colorado OneWheel (CO) – 2800
- San Fran Onewheel Riders (CA) – 2700
- ST. PETE FLOAT FLEET (FL) – 2700
- NYC OneWheel (NY) – 2600
- Houston Onewheel Crew (TX) – 2600
- Onewheel AZ (AZ) – 2500
- Oak City Onewheel Raleigh (NC) – 2300
San Fran Onewheel Riders is actually the 1st Onewheel Group, per FB data, and started on March 25, 2016.
Communities With More Than 1,000 Members
A total of 29 communities in the United States now exceed 1,000 members, and 17 communities exceed 2,000 members. These larger communities tend to be concentrated in regions with strong outdoor culture, abundant trail systems, and active ridership – especially states like Colorado, Utah, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona.
THE LARGEST ONEWHEEL COMMUNITIES IN THE U.S. (BY MEMBERSHIP)
For consistency and accuracy, the “Largest Onewheel Communities in the U.S.” list represents the single largest Facebook community in each state, rather than aggregating totals from multiple city or regional groups.
This approach prevents artificially elevated numbers in states with many sub-communities (such as California or Florida) and provides a clearer one-to-one comparison across states.
| State | Community Name | Members |
|---|---|---|
| Washington | Onewheel Seattle | 2900 |
| Colorado | Colorado OneWheel | 2800 |
| California | San Fran Onewheel Riders | 2700 |
| Florida | ST. PETE FLOAT FLEET | 2700 |
| New York | NYC OneWheel | 2600 |
| Texas | Houston Onewheel Crew | 2600 |
| Arizona | Onewheel AZ | 2500 |
| North Carolina | Oak City Onewheel | 2300 |
| Illinois | Chicago Onewheel | 2200 |
| Michigan | Onewheel Detroit | 1900 |
| Utah | Utah OneWheel / VESC / FloatWheel Owners Group | 1800 |
| Minnesota | OneWheel Minnesota | 1700 |
| Massachusetts | Onewheel Boston | 1500 |
| Ohio | Onewheel Ohio | 1300 |
| Nevada | Las Vegas OneWheels | 1200 |

WHAT MAKES ONEWHEEL AZ UNIQUE NATIONALLY

1. One of the FIRST Statewide Communities (Founded Aug 2017)
Among active communities with over 1,000 members, OWAZ ranks among the Top 10 oldest, forming during the early wave of U.S. Onewheel culture. I received my Onewheel Plus pre-order in May 2017, and by August 2017, I started OWAZ.
2. One of the Few with Full Infrastructure (Website + Discord + Social)
While most communities operate only through Facebook, OWAZ maintains:
- OnewheelAZ.org
- Full Discord server
- Facebook, Instagram & Youtube presence
- Riding Apps Strava, RideWithGPS, & Ride Hermes presence
- Published safety guidelines and ride etiquette
- Multi-year event archive
3. A Highly Engaged Membership (95% Onewheel-Specific)
While many groups include EUCs, esk8, scooters, and e-bikes, OWAZ is almost entirely Onewheel-centric, preserving a shared culture and identity. We love our PEV brethren and do have a small percentage of riders who are cross-device, but the community focus is 100% Onewheel.
4. Strong Local Base Through Active Moderation (80% Local Riders)
OWAZ moderation focuses on:
- Verifying real riders
- Limiting spam and non-rider traffic
- Encouraging community participation
This creates unified group rides, higher activity, and a stable core of long-term riders. Many of the original Stewards of Stoke (Our MODs) still help new riders to this day.
5. Expansive Terrain Diversity in Arizona
Arizona offers one of the most diverse riding ecosystems in the U.S.:
- Desert trails
- Urban rides
- Wooded northern trails
- Sedona red rock
- Flagstaff alpine
- Lakeside paths
- Sunset desert routes
- Winter riding
6. Proven Track Record of Events, Clinics & Group Rides
OWAZ is known for:
- Group rides
- Beginner clinics
- Holiday rides
- Skill-building meetups
- Trail exploration
- Statewide group events
7. Highly Active Onewheel Underground Presence
Onewheel AZ has been a leader in the Onewheel Underground Racing scene, with a strong mix of riders, including men, women, and competitors from across the country. We actively participate and contribute to RideHermes development with Mark Burns.

THE NATIONAL ONEWHEEL EVENT & RACING LANDSCAPE
While local communities form the backbone of Onewheel culture, national and regional events are what bring the wider U.S. riding scene together. These gatherings showcase community spirit, racing talent, new products, and the creativity that has shaped the sport since its earliest days.
Across the country, dozens of annual festivals and race-driven events draw riders from multiple states for competition, camaraderie, and the stoke of shredding together. They highlight the strength of local communities while proving how united the national Onewheel scene can be.
Below are some of the most well-known community and racing events across the U.S.:
Major Onewheel Festivals & Community Events (U.S.)
- Stokebird – Florida
A beach-side community event known for laid-back group rides and warm-weather winter stoke.

- Seek N Shred – California
A trail-driven festival drawing riders from across the US, hosted in one of the largest riding ecosystems in the nation. It is unique because it combines racing, trick comps, live music, camping, and communal events. I had the opportunity to perform several of my onewheel songs at Seek N Shred 2 – big thanks to Neil Bennett for the invite.!
- Floatlife Fest – North Carolina
One of the largest and most iconic Onewheel gatherings in the world, blending racing, demos, social events, and vendor showcases. - Wheel Fun Weekend – California

METHODS & DATA COLLECTION NOTES
All community information in this report was gathered manually from publicly available Facebook groups as of November 2025. While the source dataset includes every Onewheel group I could identify nationwide, the analysis in this article uses the single largest community in each state – rather than combining multiple city groups – to provide a clear, consistent comparison across states.
1. Community Start Date
Start dates were taken from the “About → Group Created” section on Facebook.
I used Facebook’s official creation timestamp to determine the community’s age.
2. Activity Status
Each group was marked as “Y” (Yes) or “N” (No) based on whether it had visible posts or interactions within the last 30 days.
This metric only confirms recent activity, not its volume or frequency.
Example:
- A group with 3 posts in 30 days = “Y”
- A group with 300 posts in 30 days = also “Y”
So “Y” means active, but not how active.
3. Membership Counts
Membership numbers reflect the publicly visible Facebook group member count at the time of data collection.
These numbers do not represent verified riders or active participants – just total listed members.
4. Only the Largest Group in Each State Was Used
Some states have multiple communities (especially large ones like California, Florida, Texas, and North Carolina).
However:
A single rider may join multiple city groups, making it very difficult to accurately calculate total state membership.
To maintain fairness and consistency:
✔ I used the largest single Facebook group in each state
✔ I did not add membership totals across multiple groups
This avoids inflated numbers and allows for a clean, apples-to-apples comparison across states.
5. Assumptions & Limitations
This dataset is the most complete national snapshot available, but a few limitations naturally exist:
- I could not verify whether every member is an actual Onewheel rider
- Some members may be travelers, visitors, or non-local riders
- Some groups include riders with other PEVs
- A few states may have communities on Discord, Telegram, or Instagram that are not reflected on Facebook
- New groups form regularly, and membership counts change daily
6. Corrections & Community Input
If you’re part of a community and notice:
- A missing group
- A more accurate membership count
- A different creation date
- Platform-specific communities not listed on Facebook
Please feel free to reach out.
I’m always happy to update the data and keep this as accurate as possible for the entire Onewheel community.
